MICHAEL and the LITTLE PROFESSORS
....jumpin, jivin music...
Musician/Singer/Songwriter Michael Tracey White has long been a favorite of Ocean City, MD music lovers for his upbeat, one-man acoustic shows. But with his new band, MICHAEL and the LITTLE PROFESSORS, audiences everywhere (even nationally!) are getting to see Michael Tracey White in a whole new light: as bandleader, drummer and (of course) singer with the region's hottest, SWINGINEST new attraction. The group has headlined in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Washington, and has opened for swing-trend pioneers Indigo Swing, Johnny Boyd, the Monkees, Robert Gordon, and the J Street Jumpers, among others. They have become a staple on the college, club and festival circuit. They have been a featured act at Ocean City, MD's world-famous SUNFEST for 3 years in a row, and this year, the group will be featured on the MAIN stage at SUNFEST, an honor traditionally reserved for national acts.
MICHAEL and the LITTLE PROFESSORS have been wowing crowds since May of 1998, quickly gaining a following comprised of all age groups with their lively renditions of swing and jazz classics with a very healthy dose of rockabilly thrown in. The band released its blockbuster TIME TO SWING" CD in 1998 and a 1/2-hour concert video in the fall of 2000.
MICHAEL and the LITTLE PROFESSORS' repertoire consists of nothing but the greatest music ever composed, penned by the likes of Gershwin, Porter, Ellington......songs made famous by legends such as Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, and Nat "King" Cole. "These songs that we have the good fortune of performing," said White, "will always have fresh appeal because they are timeless. A lot of the new swing stuff is great, and we always add some to our shows, but people don't write music like the Gershwins and the Ellingtons did anymore, partly because that classic genre is impossible to improve upon. We just do our best to play the classics well, as authentically as possible, in a style that the audience digs."
MICHAEL formed the LITTLE PROFESSORS in the spring of 1998 shortly after returning from a five-week USA tour drumming for Detroit rockabilly idols Twistin' Tarantulas.
The current trio line-up includes John Clifton on guitar and Jeff Davis on bass. Michael and the Little Professors can perform with up to five or six members, adding classically-trained Michael Smith on piano, Dave Dalfonso and/or Seth Kibel, both of whom play sax and clarinet.
